Smartphone Photo Apps

Here's a little list of some of my favorite iPhone Photo applications.  Some are available on other devices.

In order to give you a visual I used the same picture for each program and just chose some relatively different effects and filters to give you a good representation of the program.

Original Image:

Instagram
(free)
iOS + Android

Enough said.

GifBoom
(free)
iOS + Android

Creates GIFs, or illustrations, using different photos.  Sort of like a slideshow or animation.

To view the Gif from GifBoom, click here.

Editing
For editing tools, this app has Orientaton, crop, effects, frames, text options.

Saving + Sharing
Share with Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, SMS, Email.

BeFunky
(free)
iOS + Android + PC
Picture has "Beautify," Vintage 2 filter, and Grunge 2 frame.

Editing
You can edit the image (exposure, brightness, "beautify," hue, blur, sharpen, etc), there are filters and the option to determine the opacity of the filter (eg, 100% opacity means it's altered the image 100%, whereas 25% means there's only a slight application of the filter to the image), you can add a frame, and add text.

Formatting
The best part about this is that it uses the original size of the image (eg, it doesn't force you to make the image a square).

Saving + Sharing
You can then name and save the image.  You can share with the BeFunky community, Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or Flickr... you cannot upload to Instagram straight from the app.

Photosynth
(free)
iOS + Windows + PC

This is a great Microsoft app for creating panoramic images.  I don't have an example for you using the original image, but it's definitely my favorite app currently available for creating panoramic images because you just pan the camera across the subject or landscape and it will create a panorama for you!  You normally then have to go in and crop the picture so that there isn't negative space around the corners where the app didn't capture a subject, but this is comparable to even creating a Panorama in Photoshop.

Camera+
($0.99)
iOS
Picture has Fluorescent scene, HDR effect, Sprockets frame.

Editing
Through edit, there are options for scenes (such as Clarity, Cloudy, Fluorescent light, and more to sort of color correct), adjusting the orientation, cropping the image, effects which includes 27 filters and the option to purchase another set of nine (and you can adjust the intensity or opacity), and 18 options for frames plus the option to add a caption in the frames section.

Formatting
Use can use the original size of the image.

Saving + Sharing
You can upload photos to sort of a "board" called Lightbox where you can store images that you can then edit, share, or save.

PhotoMage
(free)
iOS only

Unknown filter used.

Editing
PhotoMage is very Instagram-like, if you are familiar with Instagram.  You have 15 filters to choose from and you just apply them to your image.  Very easy.  The only additional feature, compared to Instagram, is that you can add a caption or text with six fonts to choose from.  You currently do not have any font size options.

Formatting
Like Instagram, a square format is required.

Saving + Sharing
You have options to share to the camera roll, or share via email, Twitter, Facebook, or text.

Perfect Photo
