Tag

Hello, friends!! The lovely Renee tagged me in this fun little game.  So, here I am participating!

Here's the official rules:

1. Post these rules.
2. Step 1 - You must post 11 random things yourself.
3. Step 2 - Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post.
4. Step 3 - Create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
5. Go to their blog and tell them that you've tagged them.
6. No stuff in the tagging section about ‘you are tagged if you are reading this.’ Blah blah blah, you legitimately have to tag 11 peeps!

Brace yourself, readers, I tend to write a lot!

11 Random Facts {that you might.not know about me}

ONE. Duncan and I met at a Catholic college retreat hosted by our university's Catholic student organization.

TWO. I was a cheerleader in high school. My junior year, my squad placed second in state.

THREE. I almost never drink alcohol. But I do have two favorites: Raspberry Asti Spumonti and Moscato (look for them at the wedding!). In fact, I have never been further than "tipsy." But, let me tell you, it doesn't take much for me to get to "tipsy."  I think one glass is all it takes and then I am done.

FOUR. I feel abnormal for my age (but I don't find that a bad thing). Exhibit A: see number 3.

FIVE. I love the ocean and I love sharks. I'm dying to go cage diving and be (safely) face to face with a great white shark. My favorite shark: the great hammerhead. I think they are so cute! And I love that they travel in groups like a family unit.

SIX. I had every intention of enlisting into the Navy. I loved the idea as a little girl.  I talked to a recruiter after high school (mom said no, that I should wait until after college).  I started checking it out again in late 2010/early 2011 to be a navy nurse, travel the world helping people, and maybe doing flight nursing (I get bored easy). But I got engaged, and haven't looked back. It's just not my vocation. I'm totally okay with it, because I know God still has a rockin' plan for me.

SEVEN. I started writing two different books. I haven't finished them because school drains me. But I plan to finish one day!

EIGHT. I am definitely a homebody. Nothing beats a home cooked meal, chilling with my fur babies, curling up on the couch and reading a book or watching a movie. Nothing, my friends.

NINE. I do not like chick flicks. There is a rare exception, but I will almost always choose a movie with guns, explosions, fast cars, and kickbuttlery over a sappy love story.

TEN. I have acquired quite a multitude of amateur skills over the years: I've done archery, windsurfing, soccer, horse back riding (it's definitely so much fun!), gymnastics, dance, cheerleading, karate, violin, piano, singing, drama/acting, scuba diving (best experience in the world being 20 feet below the surface and seeing what's around you and then looking up to see your bubbles float to the tops of the surface against a backdrop of the clouds in the sky), and various forms of art : painting, drawing, oil, charcoal, pastel, pen and ink, colored pencil (it's harder than you think, my friends), and, obviously, my true love of photography.  I do have a deep seeded desire to learn to play the cello (I just love hearing the beautiful sound!).

ELEVEN. I do not do well being home alone. Even during the daytime. When I was little a slept with a knife. My mom would always find it, and I'd put it right back under my pillow. (I mean, I grew up in the time of JonBenét Ramsey and Elizabeth Smart. They would be/are about my age).

My Questions from Renee

[one.] What is your middle name? Michelle

[two.] What is your most embarrassing moment? Hm. It's kind of gross, too. You know those ugly yellow chairs they have in grade school as your seats? Well, I was in sixth grade. I got up from on of those seats and a boy asked me why the seat was now red. Yes, it was the first day of my first ever period. Awesome.

[three.] Who is your celebrity crush? Oh, my. Liam Neeson.

[four.] If you could move anywhere on Earth tomorrow where would you pick? Colorado. Oh, how I'd love to hike and bike the majestic landscapes.

[five.] What do you like to do when you have spare time? Spare time? What's that? I kid... Sort of... Um, read. Definitely.

[six.] Do you prefer a phone call or text? Text, please. I rarely have time to sit and chat, and to be honest, I'm not a big fan of sitting and "chatting." I'd rather talk in person.

[seven.] If you could win a shopping spree anywhere, where would you pick? Easy. Best Buy : buy another camera, a lens or two, a new lens. A nice LED flat screen for Duncan. A computer my mother understands. A nice computer for the Smiths. A kickin' color printer. Video games. Wooph. I'm going a little nutters. But this is something Duncan's asked me before, so I've already planned it all out.

[eight.] If you went to Starbucks today what would you order? A chai tea soy latte.

[nine.] What kind of car do you drive? 2009 White Pontiac Vibe : big enough to fit ALL my photography gear (I have so much I have to put down back seats), but small enough to not be overpowering and also to fit into parking spaces.

[ten.] In a spouse, rank your most preferred personality traits (highest 1 to lowest 5): sense of humor, appearance/physical attraction, intelligence, generosity, and passion

  1. Passion for something outside themselves. Duncan is passionate about saving the world, being a good Christian, helping improve various circumstances, & being a great leader -- he's a manager and does have to lead people, etc.
  2. Intelligence.  Duncan is hands down the smartest person I know, he can be above my head with engineering/technology discussions.
  3. Generosity. Duncan has a heart of gold, he can't wait to be doing well enough and have enough time -- he has zero spare time, even for me sometimes -- to give back more to the Church and to people.  He loves and respects his family more than I've seen any guy his age (though, he is still too busy to visit with them often).  And I know he'll be such a generous father.
  4. Sense of humor.  He's always making me laugh.
  5. Appearance. Don't get me wrong, I find Duncan handsome.  He reminds me of Eric Bana.  I especially like him when he grows out his beard.  However, that wasn't important criteria.  I much prefer to have an intelligent debate/conversation with someone I will be spending the rest of my life with than worrying about their physical appearance (but they do have to be healthy!  I don't want them dying before me!).  But, you are always physically attractive to your spouse, even if he may not be the Brad Pitt of the world (which, I don't think he's attractive in any way, IMO), because he is your counterpart in this world, the person you are to go down paths with, and are supposed to connect in all ways mentally, spiritually, emotionally, and physically.  (Done with the mushy talk, that was hard to bare for me).
[eleven.] If you could only choose one TV show that you could watch ever again what would it be?  Hm, I don't know.  I miss Lost, I never get sick of Friends (I have all ten seasons), I really wish Lie to Me and Off the Map were cancelled without being given more of a chance, I thoroughly enjoy the BBC's Top Gear and Sherlock and can't wait for more episodes, I like Decoded from the History Channel (I think that's the right channel -- I only watch OnDemand since I don't have time to watch any shows as soon as they air), I've been a Grey's Anatomy fanatic since it started (but disagree with the creators discussing another eight seasons when there's already been eight -- I mean, who watches ER anymore, really?  After George Clooney & Juliana Marguiles left, I was done myself), and my recent obsession is How I Met Your Mother.

My Questions for My "Tag-ees"
ONE.  What is your heritage?
TWO.  What is your life's theme song?
THREE.  What is a major lesson that you have learned in your life?
FOUR.  Do you eat breakfast (because you should! =P)?
FIVE.  Do you have any pet animals?
SIX.  What is your dream job?
SEVEN.  Who is your favorite fictional character(s)?
EIGHT.  What things are currently in your purse or on your desk?
NINE.  If you could have any talent/skill in the world, what would it be?
TEN.  Batman or Superman?
ELEVEN.  If you were given $1,000,000 but were told you must donate at least 25% to charity, what charity would you choose?

  4. A 60 year old co-worker told me the other day that he used to hitchhike regularly. I said, "Wow, I grew up in the 90s. 'The age of being afraid and cautious'." So I totally get what you're saying about sleeping with the knife! The JonBenet case still freaks me out. I remember reading the magazine articles when I was in 5th grade.
