WW: Honeymooning Decisions

If you missed the original post, I discussed how Duncan and I needed to go ahead and make our honeymoon decision since my mom has the hotel points and it requires us booking 8-9 months in advance and we hit the 8 month marker this past Sunday.

We made our decision!

It was fun seeing the results of the poll.  I am happy to announce, though, that Hawaii did win.  You guys most know me/us very well!  Costa Rica was only one point behind!

We sat down and discussed what was important to us in a honeymoon location (beach; outdoor adventures like diving, ziplining, hiking, snorkeling; food; etc), we looked at the hotel options through Hilton, flights through Delta (Atlanta-pride? or SkyMiles members?), etc.  We wanted to go someplace we knew we wouldn't really go unless it was our honeymoon and to us that was Hawaii.  Costa Rica and Egypt are must-travel-to places, so we will definitely get there eventually, but Hawaii sounded like the perfect blend for a honeymoon: famous beaches, luaus, rain forests, volcanoes, history (yes, Pearl Harbor is a must-see).

We have booked at the beautiful islands of Oahu and the Big Island for an 11-day stay over the course of Duncan's birthday and we leave the following Friday after the wedding (I liked the idea of having a little break and to not have to worry about packing and honeymoon details before the wedding).

Sample itinerary includes:
  • Pearl Harbor
  • Hanauma Bay
  • Leahi (Diamond Head)
  • Dole's Plantation (fresh pineapples? Yes, please!  Maze included?  Um, we might not leave!)
  • Day trip to the island of Kauai for Waimea Canyon, Na Pali Coast, Wailua River blowhole (pictured above) and waterfalls
  • Volcanoes (I want to see photograph lava!)
  • Attend a luau complete with pig roast.  Devour pig*. ;)
  • Surfing, diving, snorkeling, ziplining, hiking, etc.
*For those of you who don't know, pig is my favorite animal to consume.  If we're talking about to enjoy for companionship, it would definitely not be a pig.  It would be a cat.  Pigs are too delicious.  ;P

Thank you for your input!
It was super fun :)
We both wanted Costa Rica and Egypt,
but we are really confident and excited in our decision for Hawaii!

Aloha!
