The beginning of a new chapter.

Beautiful flowers from two of my good friends and nursing peers, Sarah and Sharelle.
Last week was quite a wonderful, productive week for many reasons.  In many ways, it marked the beginning of a new chapter in our lives.  Since many of you are waiting on explanation, here you go!

Starting in chronological order:
1. Duncan landed a job.  It is such an amazing opportunity and will really allow him to advance in his career, to learn a lot about his profession, and grow as an engineer.  We were really worried about him getting a job because of how the economy is and we expected it to take a lot longer than it has (though, to be honest, he started applying to jobs in February).

2. Duncan's family from Africa flew in to visit last week.  I have met his aunt on a prior visit to the States, but she brought his new uncle and it is always so much fun and such a nice break from school to spend time with family.  I am glad we were able to spend time with them, even though it was quite a busy week for everyone (his sister, Jaclynn, drove back and forth an hour at least a few times that week while also having strep throat!).

3. It was my birthday this weekend.  This barely made #3 and is technically #4 since it was celebrated after what is listed as #4, but I am listing it as #3 because it did technically start first.  It was a lovely day filled with #4, mass for Our Lady of Mount Carmel, breakfast with my parents, lunch with my parents downtown Roswell, a little nap (& yes a bit of studying), and a delightfully charming little dinner with some of my closest friends.  Hooray for reasons to bring all of your loved ones together!

4.  Duncan proposed.  I am going to make this short and sweet: it was right after midnight on my birthday, I cried, he wore a suit and got down on one knee, and I obviously said "yes."  If you would like more details, stay tuned here.

Duncan and I have decided to start a blog in order to keep our families and friends updated on wedding information, since so many of our loved ones live either out of town, out of state, or out of the country!  We think this will be a great opportunity for them to feel like they are a part of our special day, especially since it will be hard for them to even come attend.  To stay updated yourself, please visit our up and running blog!

Here are some pictures from my birthday weekend:
We got tickets to see the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra perform the music from Casablanca as the play the movie.  So it was like screen on the green in actual seats with live music.  It was brilliant.  I love the orchestra and he was such a good sport... in fact, he enjoyed it!

Me, Katie, Katie.  I have known these darling girls as long as I have known Duncan.
They are truly two of the most amazing women I know.
Sharelle, Sarah, Rosemary, myself.
My fellow nursing students.
Together, we survive....somehow. :)

Sarah, me, Sharelle.
Me and Jaclynn.  I was so excited she was able to show up and celebrate with me.

Of course, I had to take a picture of my dinner.
The fries with their various dipping sauces was the best part of the night.
But I did quite like my "bratdog" with a side salad.
